Love the table; assembly troubles

I was looking for an inexpensive table to use for our laptop. When I saw this one the size seemed perfect and I definitely thought the price was right. I wasn't interested in the barstools because I planned to use extra chairs from our counter height dining table, but figured I could probably find a use for them somewhere else. The table turned out to be the perfect size for the area I had in mind and I really like the look of it. However, there were definite issues with assembly. First of all, it appeared from the instructions that assembly of the table consisted merely of attaching the legs to the table top and voila! Not so. The top needed to be attached to the support frame (I don't know what you call the frame that the table top sits on) and there was no hardware provided to do that, nor were there any steps for this process included in the instructions. I attempted to use some of the screws that looked like "extras" but they poked thru the top of the table. Nice. I was able to find some screws in my garage that worked okay. The rest of the table went together as expected after that. Then came the barstools. The first one went together without a hitch. The second one, however, was another story. It turned out that two of the legs were defective and the holes for the screws were not threaded properly, and one of them was cracked. Again, since I'm not using the stools, it's a minor inconvenience for me, but if you're counting on them, that would be a serious bummer. If the table legs had been the defective parts, I would have returned the item immediately. I attempted to contact the manufacturer this morning for replacement parts but had to leave a message and so far have not had a call back. Overall, the product is impressively good quality for the price. The table top is a beautiful faux marble (very brown -- I was looking for more black but I'm okay with that) and it's sturdy, but there are some definite glitches. It might just be my bad luck. I had a hard time deciding between 3 and 4 stars because I really do like the table, but with the problems in the assembly process I had to go with 3.

Kitchen island table

My boyfriend and I cook a lot. Our apartment has a large kitchen, but with many things lacking. The stove is literally an antique, and there was a huge wasted open space where there instead could have been more counter space. We took matters into our own hands by buying this set. The table has a faux-marble top, and the stools have faux-leather seats that are pretty comfortable, although we don't sit on them often. The dimensions are perfect for our kitchen, as we set it up to be an island. We put a wooden cutting board on top (had to use a non-slip pad because the tabletop is very smooth) and it is now our prep table. The table is a bar height, so if you're a person of not-unusual height, standing or sitting at it on the stools will be comfortable for you.

I ordered this because I needed a cheap place to eat when I had another person over. I didn't expect anything great considering the price, but I had recently been pleasantly surprised by the high quality of some other cheap furniture I had purchased on Amazon (computer desk and chair).The only thing technically wrong with the table I received were some small scratches in the wood. These weren't really a big deal, as they were each only about 1/4" long. The table and stools look nice, but they are not very stable. I would recommend this to someone who wants it for look and occasional use. However, the table and stools are initially wobbly enough (especially the table) that I am confident putting much weight on them in anything other than a perfectly vertical direction will result in breakage. This instability isn't a result of my job putting the pieces together. I have put together many pieces of furniture like this. It is a result of the legs being very long and only secured by a single bolt. Such a tall table with skinny legs is susceptible to instability.In summary, the set looks good, is reasonably easy to put together, and is obviously cheap. However, its cheapness can be felt immediately upon use.
