Product Description

As children, many people dreamed of having a tree house, a place where they could get away to play and relax. Today, more and more people are making this dream a reality for their children, especially in the United States, England, Germany, France, and Brazil but it does not have to be just for children. (In fact, Corbin Dunn, 31, took up a permanent residence in a tree house in Santa Cruz, California for five years.) The Complete Guide to Building Your Own Tree House will show you how to create one of these sky-high getaways, whether it is a child s play area or an adult hideaway. The oldest documented tree house is located in England on the grounds of Pitchford Hall and dates back to the 17th century. This proves that a tree house can be a lasting investment, especially if you choose the right tree and the right materials. This book will show you how to select a tree, prepare the tree, purchase the best materials, use the right tools, and buy lumber. You will learn about the tree house basics and the anatomy of a stable tree house, including four corners, diagonal support, sturdy flooring, a reliable ladder and railing, and a leak-proof roof. In this book you will also learn about waterproofing, safety precautions, and building regulations and restrictions. 1Caveat Emptor
By Curt Twain
As I write this review, there are eight others rating this book at four or five stars. None of these prior reviews are from verifed purchasers.I have read several tree house books, and this was recently published so I purchased it.Note that only half the book (chapters 1- 10) contains 'useful' content. The remainder of the book is a collection of plans (duplicated on the included CD, why did the publisher reprint all of it?) and case studies. The content is weak and supported by very few diagrams (e.g., Chapter 5 "Building the platform" contains no diagrams, and only a single picture).I cannot recommend this book and returned it. The "Black and Decker Build your kids a Treehouse" is excellent and aimed at an adult audience. If you would like a more kid friendly book, those written by the Stiles are perfect.Black & Decker The Complete Guide: Build Your Kids a Treehouse (Black & Decker Complete Guide) /Tree Houses You Can Actually Build: A Weekend Project Book (Stiles, David R. 5Great family project
By Reba B. Hilbert
When I was young, we bought a home in northern Idaho--a real fixer-upper with many interesting features. But there was one thing that sold my sister and me on our new home, and that was the stunning tree house in the backyard. It was painted to match the house, with double doors and a small wood-burning stove. We spent countless hours in that tree house, and it contributed to many of my childhood memories. The Complete Guide to Building Your Own Tree House took me back to those happy times, and hopefully it will inspire parents everywhere to create a space for their own children to play and dream and get away from it all. This book is full of great advice--on everything from location, zoning, structure, safety precautions, and design. It's also loaded with full-color photographs, diagrams, and information on the tools and materials you'll need to build your own little getaway. Whether you're planning on building a backyard tree house for your children, or designing a more grown-up space for guests and relatives, The Complete Guide to Building Your Own Tree House literally has everything you need to get started. And it's written in a way that is not intimidating, even to a novice builder. There's practical advice and easy-to-follow instructions, and I hope many families will take on this wonderful project and bring fun and joy into their lives.

5Great contribution!
By KonKal
At last someone has written the COMPLETE book on building a tree house. Where was this book when I needed it? If you searched the bookstores and internet, you found great picture books but nothing that went deep into the actual concerns that arise when building. This book has both the practical for the beginner and the refined for the advanced. Is there any reason not to buy this book? Really, the only reason not to buy it is if what you are building isn't more than a hunter's platform. For anything else, this is the book.
